Infant Finches
Infant Finches play oblique music that catches you off guard, carelessly balancing between straight forms and cryptic motives.
The duo makes a complex yet direct music that brings together polyrhythmic structures, noise and clear melodies in a song like form. An ongoing sense of naivitet carries the listener through abrupt surprises while bearing a transcendental mind at it’s core.Written, performanced and produced by Jan Philipp and Frederik Bruun, the duo have a discographie of two EP’s entitled Yellow Tape (2019) and Orange Tape (2020) to date. The two band members met each other in the contemporary music scene in Copenhagen Denmark and shortly thereafter formed Infant Finches. The band’s self released EP Yellow Tape consists of the first four songs they wrote together under the concept “first thought, best thought”. It was conceived over a two month period in a basement rehearsal space and self-released on Bandcamp. It was later picked up and re-released by the record label Papercup
Records, who also brought out Orange Tape, their sophomore EP. Orange Tape pushed the central ideas of the debut Yellow Tape further, while implementing unorthodox compositions and long instrumentals an containing an intuitive and joyful core. With similar aesthetics to The Beatles, This Heat, Women and Stereolab, Infant Finches excuses these by twisting and turning the music into their own domain.
