Casual Low Grind & Sichtexot present: Halfpastseven Trio (w/ Radiohop) / DJ set: Hulk Hodn
After several albums and EPs released on the Frankfurt hip-hop label OIYO, the young producer “Halfpastseven” has reached over 100,000 monthly listeners, making him a recognised figure in the international beatmaking scene.
As a student jazz pianist, he creates a unique combination of harmonies, sounds and grooves. Nostalgic synthesizer sounds, fused with warm Rhodes Tines and organic drums, are the foundation and typical trademark for the velvety soft sound worlds “made by Halfpastseven”.
His latest album “Why Am I Thinking” revolves entirely around the creation of a multi-faceted soundscape, with an imaginary soundtrack at its centre, spun around thoughts of self-reflection and “overthinking”.
While studying in Amsterdam, “Halfpastseven” finds the right comrades-in-arms on drums and bass to give his productions a new and fresh sound. By re-interpreting hip-hop beats as a jazz trio, the focus is much more on the actual compositions, thus leaving enough room for creative improvisations that are clearly reminiscent of the jazz fusion era of the 70s. In live performances, all these elements are freely combined, creating an explosive show with an international jazz sound.
Halfpastseven is also using this German debut tour to present his main project from Amsterdam, RADIOHOP. Expanded to a quartet by the befitting Frankfurt native Johnny Biner on guitar, the group has already made a name for itself in the Amsterdam jazz and hip-hop scene. After collaborating with the festival organiser “Super Sonic Jazz” and the club “Paradiso”, the focus is now on the first debut album.
