Jazzbar Special: Listen To The Music Of Benny Goodman
DJ Jochen Axer plays the music of Benny Goodman. Free admission.
114 years ago, on 30 May 1909, Benny Goodman was born: an icon of jazz and world music, whatever your opinion of his music. We remember his most famous pieces. Goodman set a milestone with the formation of his first big band in 1934, because for the first time in the history of jazz, white and black musicians played together. His first number one hit came in 1934 with Moonglow. He gave his famous jazz concert in New York's Carnegie Hall on 16 January 1938 and thus ensured that jazz became respectable overnight and increasingly accepted in the "finer circles". Today, the recordings of the concert are considered milestones and classics. On the occasion of his birthday, we would like to commemorate this recording of a swing big band in particular, but also other recordings with smaller ensembles - and with it a great clarinettist and bandleader. No less than the "King of Swing" Benny Goodman.
