His baritone voice made him famous: Since 2010, the 53-year-old Californian, whose gospel background is unmistakable, has enjoyed great success with his blend of jazz, soul and gospel. He combines original compositions, standards and contemporary soul - his idols are Nat King Cole, Donny Hathaway, Nina Simone and Stevie Wonder. His debut album "Water" was well received and won a Grammy for best jazz vocal album. His album "Liquid Spirit" (2013) won the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album and was finally his breakthrough, becoming one of the most streamed jazz albums of all time with over 20 million streams. The album "Take Me To The Alley" (2017) continued his success unabated. His cap (a balloon cap with a tube scarf) has visually become his trademark.
