Rory Ingham (UK) brings together an all-star sextet to celebrate the music of legendary drummer Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, but in the lesser-known sextet formation represented in the 1960s by the stellar line-up of Freddie Hubbard, Curtis Fuller and Wayne Shorter, plus pianist Cedar Walton, bassist Reggie Workman and Art Blakey. This project demonstrates hard bop with a frighteningly fresh feel; the music is wild, energetic and incredibly swinging. Tonight's special concert at King George will see this highly dedicated ensemble focus on the music of Wayne Shorter, the legendary US saxophonist and composer who sadly passed away earlier this year. Ingham will be accompanied by some of the best talent on the Cologne jazz scene.
