Thimo Niesterok Quartett
Thimo Niesterok (trumpet), Thilo Wagner (piano), Rolf Marx (guitar), Henning Gailing (bass)
Thimo Niesterok (*1996) is one of the few trumpeters in Germany fully dedicated to swing music. Already during his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln (2015-2020) he toured internationally (e.g. India, South Korea and as a prize winner of the Kobe Jazz Street Award to Japan) and released his first CD under his own name: "First Clambake" in 2017. In 2019, the joint album "Two Talkin' Horns" with trombone legend Dan Barrett (USA) was released. Niesterok regularly works with artists* such as Chris Hopkins, Engelbert Wrobel or Joscho Stephan and has also worked with greats such as Emil Mangelsdorff or Nicki Parrott. With his current quartet, Niesterok takes up the sound of Clark Terry, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Ruby Braff and, last but not least, that of Oscar Peterson's legendary drummerless trio. Together with three of the most sought-after musicians of the swinging German jazz scene - Thilo Wagner (piano), Rolf Marx (guitar) & Henning Gailing (double bass)- Thimo Niesterok takes on standards of the 20s to 40s: in arrangements written especially for this band, without losing the high-class jam manner with plenty of room for improvisation - as well as some original compositions by the band leader.
