Wayne Horvitz
Winner of the 2016 Doris Duke Performing Artist Award, composer, pianist and keyboardist W a y n e H o r v i t z performs as leader/composer of Snowghost, Sweeter Than the Day and the Royal Room Collective Music Ensemble. His previous ensembles include The President: the Horvitz, Morris, Previte Trio: the New York Composers' Orchestra: and the Gravitas Quartet. Clients include The Kitchen, The Seattle Symphony, Kronos, BAM, New World Records, The Seattle Chamber Players, The Flynn, and Vienna Jazz. Principals include the MTC, NEA, Seattle Mayors Office, NYSCA, Mary Flagler Carey Trust, and the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund. He has received 3 MAP Fund awards, the NEA American Masterpiece Award, 3 Artist Trusts grants, and more. In a NY Times review of a residency at The Stone, Ben Ratliff wrote, "Mr. Horvitz kept his attention on the band with microscopic acuity, shifting quickly between contrasts, releasing something or playing against a solidity. It held the attention, and if it was perverse, it was just perverse enough."
