Jazzbar Special: Listen To The Music Of Benny Goodman
DJ JoJa plays the music of Benny Goodman. Free admission
114 years ago, on May 30, 1909, Benny Goodman was born: an icon of jazz and world music, no matter what one thinks of his music. We remember his most famous pieces. Goodman set a milestone with the formation of his first big band in 1934, because for the first time in the history of jazz, white and black musicians played together. His first number 1 hit came in 1934 with Moonglow. He gave his famous jazz concert at New York's Carnegie Hall on January 16, 1938, ensuring that jazz became respectable overnight and increasingly accepted even in "finer circles." Today, the recordings of the concert are considered milestones and classics. Especially this as the recording of a swing big band, but also other recordings in smaller instrumentation we want to remember on the occasion of his birthday - and thus a great clarinetist and bandleader. No less than to the "King of Swing" Benny Goodman.
