Jazzbar Special: Listen To The Music Of Elvin Jones
19 years ago on 18 May 2004, one of the most important and best jazz drummers died: Elvin Jones, who became known especially as a member of the John Coltrane Quartet. In his honour today, on the anniversary of his death, we play recordings on which he participated, especially in the John Coltrane Quartet.
Free admission.
Jones played with jazz greats such as Bud Powell, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Larry Young, Donald Byrd, Charles Mingus and Charlie Parker. From 1960-1965 Jones was engaged as a member of the “classic” John Coltrane Quartet. He developed new playing techniques in modern jazz and had a high influence on the following generations of drummers with his beat, polyrhythms and complex solos.
