Jazzbar Special: Listen To To The Music Of Jamie Cullum
We play the music of Jamie Cullum. Free admission.
Jamie Cullum sees himself as a jazz and crossover artist. He borrows from rock, hip-hop, acid jazz, blues. Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis are the ones who opened up jazz for him.
His first major label album, "Twentysomething", became the best-selling jazz album in the history of Great Britain, selling 2.5 million copies. Here and in later albums, Cullum mixes jazz standards with original compositions and versions of contemporary rock and pop songs. The 44-year-old is a great entertainer - and you can hear that even in his music without seeing him live.
"It is my belief that jazz is the best platform to do what you want. People ask me why I play jazz, and it's because you can take it to so many different places. You can incorporate dance music, rock, pop music, classical, funk, everything."
Outstanding his solo album "The Pursuit" from 2009, in which he again combines jazz and other modern influences in his piano playing
Jamie Cullum is already the most successful British jazz artist of all time - and he still has many years ahead of him.... true to his title "Don't stop the music".
