Jazzweek: Schönecker/ Sasse/ Schieferdecker

Joachim Schönecker (guitar), Martin Sasse (piano), Markus Schieferdecker (bass)
Release Concert
The trio offers fine chamber jazz, in the line-up famous since Nat King Cole: guitar, piano, double bass. That this music swings and translates its inspiration from Oscar Peterson via Ron Carter's "Golden Striker Trio" into the present is not too much to promise with this line-up. Joachim Schönecker, who as a guitarist has played with many international greats such as Patti Austin, Jeff Hamilton or Chris Potter, and Martin Sasse, who himself has long been one of the outstanding jazz pianists in Europe and has worked with almost all the legends in international jazz, are joined by Marcus Schieferdecker, professor of double bass at the Hochschule der Künste Bremen.

'This trio swings incredibly! And in the music of guitarist Joachim Schoenecker, pianist Martin Sasse and Markus Schieferdecker on double bass, it is once again evident that skilfully and intelligently interpreted straight-ahead mainstream jazz is timeless. This album, recorded in one studio day, is of one piece, and it conveys the experience of a perfect set'. (Jazzthetik, May 2023, 5 stars) 'I hardly know any living jazz guitarist who has such an authentic archtop sound as Joachim Schoenecker. In addition, there is his certainty of style, which, however, he definitely enforces in solos with his own virtuoso sound language. To achieve this in the vapor circle of Jim Hall, Pat Martino, Grant Green and Wes Montgomery is a more than mature achievement. That's exactly what you can experience on 'Trio Tales', an album recorded in one studio day that grooves so much that you don't notice until the third track or not at all that there's no drummer involved here.'
