Viva Valente: A swingin‘ tribute to Caterina Valente
Sabine Kühlich (vocals, saxophone, percussion), Jörg Seidel -(vocals, guitar), Chris Hopkins (piano), Jean Philippe Wadle (double bass).
In January 2021, singer and entertainer Caterina Valente celebrated her 90th birthday.... and in good health. For the gifted guitarist and singer Jörg Seidel and the renowned exceptional singer, pianist and saxophonist Sabine Kühlich, this was the final occasion to dedicate a program to this musician blessed with so many outstanding talents - both have been Valente fans for decades. "Valente"...that's what artists were called in the 50s and 60s who were as good as Caterina Valente. But it also means: brave and capable. And that's what you have to be to come close to Caterina Valente's abilities. Now four terrific artists* have come together to play the repertoire from the most diverse genres. Jörg Seidel is considered the "...currently outstanding European jazz singer" (German Jazzpages) and renowned guitarist. He has worked with Bill Ramsey for 15 years and has been touring with the well-known actor and singer Ron Williams since 2007. Together, Jörg and Sabine have raised Viva Valente from its cradle. It is a project of the hearts of these two musicians and thanks to the Corona lull in the music business, VIVA VALENTE was pressed onto CD in record-breaking time and is now being celebrated on the stages.
With Sabine Kühlich the probably at present most successful German singer stands at the microphone. The multi-award-winning musician, chosen by the New York jury in Montreux as the winner of the Montreu Jazz Voice, swings, scats and sings like Valente in seven languages. She will sing duets with Jörg Seidel, recalling Valente's collaboration with her brother Silvio Francesco.
